ARST 243 Graphic Design
Work from various projects for my graphic design class at Wesleyan.
Incomplete Manifesto for Growth
The first assignment was to create a gridded poster of Bruce Mau's Incomplete Manifesto for Growth, a 43-point list on life advice for creatives. When approaching my own interpretation of the piece, I noticed that the text fell into two categories: advice for growth within restrictions and advice for growth within freedoms. I graphically displayed this by placing the restrictive on the grid, and the free gradually falling off.

Added gradient, playing with title
Conceptualizing body typography
The final version. I incorporated the title in with the falling blocks and settled on a green gradient, a nod to the growth of plant life.
Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore
The second assignment was to design a sleeve for one of our favorite books. I chose Robin Sloan's Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, a fictional novel that incorporates themes of mystery, design, and tech (a few of my favorite things).

Book icon design
Started with the cover
"Infinite book" concept that wraps all around the book into the flaps
The final version. Changed coloring as an homage to 24-hour "open" signs. Incorporated custom neon typography. Used iconographic representation of the plot in place of textual blurb on the flap to the right.
